Rythmos Syn: 32-Step Parallel Engine Synthesiser and Sequencer
Eight oscillators, three parallel sound engines and a powerful step sequencer for creating evolving electronic rhythms.
Description
Steps, Oscillators and harmonics
This programmable electronic step synthesiser contains the core parts of a modular synth setup. There is a fundamental variable shape frequency oscillator that is adjustable from 27.5Hz A0 to 3951.1Hz B7. There are an additional 7 oscillators that operate at fixed harmonics e.g. f*2 to f*6 of the main oscillator that can be individually mixed in. These also operate at f/2 & f/4 for sub harmonic effects.
Effects and filters
Eight oscillators are mixed and routed through three parallel sound engines: a State Variable Filter, a bass-driven ladder filter and a harmonic wavefolder. The processed signals are then blended and shaped by an output envelope, delivering everything from warm analogue tones to complex evolving textures and powerful rhythmic sequences.
Playing patterns
Each of the 32 steps can be switched on or off and assigned individual frequencies or notes.
A reset count sets the sequence length, while playback modes include forwards, backwards, stepped variations and Euclidean-style rhythmic patterns.
Tempo can be adjusted internally or controlled externally using a 5V CV / gate input.
Unlike traditional single-filter synthesizers, Rythmos Syn processes sound through multiple parallel paths simultaneously, creating richer textures, deeper movement and more complex evolving timbres.
Memories
There are 6 instant play / save memories and a total of 6*6 = 36 pattern memories that save all settings.
Far cheaper than a modular synth system
If all of these parts consisted of separate modular synth modules, then the cost of the whole system would run into thousands of pounds or dollars. The price of the parts to build the prototype were approximately £150. I anticipate as a kit with PCB it may cost around £300 UK.
Great for professionals and hobby musicians
The modular design allows the user to craft and create a huge range of beat patterns and apply filter and effects during playback. The circular design and illuminated touch switches make it quite unique and stylish and maybe a bit retro. It would suit chip tune creators, techno beat designers, hobby and professional musicians.
